Jones looks forward to tough Euro Pool
The Scarlets have been drawn in the ‘Group of Death’ alongside reigning Heineken champions London Wasps, with 2006 winners Munster and European Challenge Cup victors ASM Clermont Auvergne making up the group.
Yet Jones says that his side have enough pedigree and experience to stand shoulder to shoulder with the biggest teams in the game, and that their 6-0 record in last season’s competition, including a double over triple European champions Toulouse, will stand them in good stead this term.
“Our results last season speak for themselves,” said former Clermont No.10 Jones.
“We shouldn’t have to fear anyone and it is games like those against Wasps, Clermont and Munster which you want as a player. I’m already looking forward to them.”
Scarlets Chief Executive Stuart Gallacher added: “It doesn’t come any tougher than this draw. Pool 6 is pretty tough with Leinster, Leicester and Toulouse alongside Edinburgh but the Scarlets have without doubt been handed a tough assignment.”
The Pool draw was made at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff, on Wednesday, when it was also announced that next season’s final will be played at the Millennium Stadium on the weekend of May 24th/25th, 2008. It will be the fifth tournament final staged in the Welsh capital.
