All eyes on Wales

Wales is watching – that’s the message from Coach Nigel Davies to all Welsh qualified rugby players involved in club and regional rugby this month.

Davies will turn professional spectator and join his coaching team to all relevant grounds around Wales and England to assess form before he makes his final selection to play World Champions South Africa at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday November 24th.

“It’s a one off game and we have around 10-days lead in time, so we’re going to have to be pretty decisive about who is playing well, who is good enough and who is going to offer us what we need to win this game,” said Davies.

“It’s one small snapshot of the rugby season but we have been asked to do this job and win this game and we need to make sure that we have the best team on the pitch on the day to do that.

“The only way to achieve those aims is to have 22 players available to us at the peak of their form and ready and raring to go at the Springboks. We are going to be watching all the games we can and we are looking for hunger, desire and passion to go with talent, ability and most importantly current form.

“If you’re Welsh and you are out there playing at the top end of the game then we are making a commitment to you. We will be watching, or have someone there watching to report back to us and if you are playing well then we will know about it and we will pick you.

“The side we pick will have earned the right to play theWorld Champions on our home patch and show pride and passion in wearing the Wales shirt in front of, hopefully, a full house of our home fans.

“There’s no greater ground to play in than the Millennium Stadium, we always say there are no greater fans in World rugby, and it looks like we will be facing the best team on the planet at that given moment.

“It’s simply our task to do justice to the magnitude of this fixture, right whatever wrongs we may feel have gone on in the past and win ourselves a trophy.”

Wales will play South Africa in the inaugural Prince William Cup match, the trophy will be presented to the winning team by Prince William himself.
