Bridgend Athletic Youth defeated last season’s National Youth League Champions Pontypool United 22-6, while Rumney Youth overcame last season’s Cup finalists Wauarlwydd Youth 16-8.
The interest of North Wales was extinguished by wins by Haverfordwest at Nant Conwy and Tonmawr at home to Caernarfon, while other excellent wins worthy of mention are Builth Wells/Gwernyfed’s 36-0 win over Llandovery, Pentyrch’s away 45-0 win at Croesyceiliog and Merthyr Tydfil’s away 31-0 defeat of Ynysybwl.
In the draw for Round Two, made by WRU President Dennis Gethin, Builth Wells/Gwernyfed have been rewarded for their impressive first round display with a home match against champions Bridgend Athletic, while Rumney and Pentyrch have also been handed home draws – against Burry Port and Haverfordwest respectively.
Tonmawr and Merthyr have been drawn away at Whitland and Tondu. Round Two matches are to be played on December 22.
