Restauranteur and hotel owner Andrew Evans made the unique menu choices on behalf of his special guests as they prepare to face the world champions at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday November 24th (kick-off 2.45pm).
The likes of captain Gethin Jenkins and fellow stars James Hook, Gavin Henson and Mark Jones attempted to keep their on-field enemies closer by tucking into the specially imported meat to give them a taste for battle at the weekend.
“We specialise in what we call unbuttoned fine dining and are often called upon to create world menus for various hotel clients,” said Mr Evans. “The particular menu provided to the Wales team was sourced by a specialist exotic meat importer and shipped in directly from South Africa.
“Exotic buffets are a regular part of our offerings to guests, but we also specialise in Welsh based foods and meats which have been equally appreciated by the Welsh team.”
And Coach Nigel Davies says the change of scenery to West Wales, innovative food choices together with team bonding exercises and an open training session at Tenby rugby club today(Wed, 10.30am) all add up to a recipe for success for his side.
“We have tried to do things a little bit differently and freshen things up this week, to really challenge this group of players,” said Davies.Â
“We’ve made no secret of the fact that we want to take them out of any comfort zone and maintain high standards all week and initiatives like the visit to Heatherton Park yesterday (Tuesday) and even small things like changing the menus for players add to a progressive and positive atmosphere around the place.
“The St Brides Hotel, Tenby Rugby Club have and Heatherton Park have all gone out of their way in their attempts to meet our needs.”
The Wales squad were involved in a series of team bonding exercises yesterday afternoon (Tues) at the Heatherton Park activity centre in Pembrokshire.
A series of challenges including archery, target shooting, clay pigeon shooting, baseball and golf were won by the five-man group headed up by the side’s most senior player, 93-cap man Colin Charvis, with Luke Charteris taking the individual honours.
