IRB Appeal Decision

04.02.23 - Wales v Ireland - Guinness Six Nations - Prematch pyrotechnics at Principality Stadium

An Independent Appeal Committee in Dublin on August 28 heard appeals by the Welsh Rugby Union and Fédération Française de Rugby against the disciplinary sanctions imposed in respect of the brawl between Players from both teams which took place following the IRB Junior World Championship 2008 Pool D match at the Liberty Stadium on June 14.

Welsh Rugby Union

The Independent Appeal Committee, Chaired by Lorne Crerar (Scotland), determined to vary the decision of the Judicial Officer as follows:


1.       That the sanction of a deficit of minus 3 points should only apply to the IRB Junior World Championship 2009 and not also the 2010 Championship as previously provided.


2.       The suspended fine of £50,000 be replaced with a £30,000 fine payable immediately.


Fédération Française de Rugby


The Independent Appeal Committee, Chaired by Lorne Crerar (Scotland), determined to vary the decision of the Judicial Officer as follows:


1.       That the sanction of a deficit of minus 3 points should only apply to the IRB Junior World Championship 2009 and not also the 2010 Championship as previously provided.


2.       The suspended fine of £50,000  be replaced with a £30,000 fine payable immediately.
