Statement from WRU and the four Welsh regions

Senior representatives of the Welsh Rugby Union and the four Welsh Regions have today reached significant agreement over how to progress discussions directly related to how they operate in union for the benefit of the game in Wales.

A meeting took place involving the Chairman of the WRU, David Pickering, the chairs of the main WRU committees and the chairmen of the Scarlets, the Ospreys, the Cardiff Blues and the Newport Gwent Dragons.

The WRU has today accepted an election by all four Regions to continue operating within the terms and conditions of the existing Participation Agreement which will endure for five years from June the 1st 2009.

At the meeting today all parties agreed that discussions will now take place to formulate variations to the agreement which will benefit Welsh Rugby and the operation of all four Regions going forward and the national side, in particular..

All parties agreed that the discussions can embrace debate which has already taken place but the basis for all variations will be the terms and conditions of the current Participation Agreement
