Following wins against Leicester Tigers, Bath and the Sale Sharks on the way to the semi’s, the Blues will be looking to topple another English side and book their place in the Twickenham final.
Speaking ahead of the match Cardiff Blues Director of Rugby David Young said, “We thought we did quite well last season winning two of our three EDF Energy Cup matches, however we didn’t quite get to the semi final, so its great this year that we have taken the extra step.”
“We had a better chance with two home games but we still had to beat some big names.”
“If you look at the English Premiership: Bath, Leister and the Sale Sharks are right up at the top and after beating the better teams in England we’ve earned the right to be in the semi finals.”
“We’ve been at this stage before, but I felt we didn’t do ourselves justice against the Ospreys that day.”
“Hopefully we can get back to the form that got us into the semi finals, and if we do, we will be a very hard team to beat.”
“Going into the match, we have slight concerns that we maybe a little bit rusty, having had long periods without a match due to the break in the Magners League.”
“We’ve tried to accommodate the players as much as we could and in an ideal world we would have played a friendly match.”
‘I think Northampton have improved game on game as the season has progressed and have hardly lost a home fixtures this season – so we know they will be tough opposition.”
“They are very strong up front with a lot of hardened forwards and have a renowned front row in Euan Murray and Dylan Hartley.”
“They also have a lot of class behind and are a quality team that can punish you. I’m sure they will challenge our line out and scrum and we will have to front up.”
“We have to make sure we build a platform to attack and if we play in the right areas I’m sure we can come away with the win.”
