The Ebbw Vale player will now fly out with the squad on Sunday to prepare for the Hong Kong tournament which begins on Friday (March 27).

He was the Principality Player of the Month last October after a series of top notch displays for his club.

Tal Selley will now be available to prepare with the Dragons squad for their away game h against Connacht on Friday 3 April. He will also be considered for selection in a friendly fixture against the Scarlets in the build-up to the Connacht encounter.

WRU Head of Rugby Performance and Development, Joe Lydon, said: “This is a difficult call for Tal but it has obviously provided a great opportunity for Aaron to take part in a tournament which is a massive showpiece for Sevens rugby on the world stage.

“The Dragons match against Connacht is extremely important and we understand how their injury problems have presented us all with a scenario which we have to confront and resolve in partnership.

“We are very grateful to the Dragons, the other three Regions and the Premiership Division clubs in Wales for their cooperation in helping us create a world beating Sevens team.”

Dragons Chief Executive, Gethin Jenkins, explained: “The injury toll within our squad means we have no alternative other than to recall Tal Selley to play in this crucial Magners League encounter against Connacht.

“We have always recognised the importance of representative calls on our players but there must always be a common sense balance based on all our needs in this professional era.

“At the Dragons we are proud that our players are continually achieving international recognition, not least because it reflects well on the great work being done by our coaching team, but a proper consideration of the demands of the Region is essential.”
