WRU Audio: Tom Isaacs speaks to wru.co.uk
Young Dragons scrum half Tom Isaacs is hoping his career in sevens will emulate his flatmate’s rise to fame.
Isaacs shares a house with Cardiff Blues and Wales centre Jamie Roberts and is hoping his own career continues to flourish in this week’s Rugby World Cup Sevens in Dubai.
“Jamie did well on the sevens circuit and is now a key figure in the Blues and Wales side and looking good for a Lions shirt,” he said. “He’s making his mark and if I can follow suit I would be more than happy with that.”
“I’m very excited about the tournament. We’ve already been out in Dubai in December and we’re quite confident of doing well. We did well in Wellington (in the IRB Series) where we beat some of the top flight teams in the world
In his first season on the international circuit, Isaacs says the shorter version of the game has brought added discipline to his all round game.
“With Sevens you play in front of large crowds against teams from other sides of the world. It helps you cope with the big occasion when you’re playing in different environments, spending two or three weeks away from home at a time. It can be a very intensive time but it helps with your discipline.”
