Welsh sides could be put on red alert for the services of former Scarlets full-back Barry Davies after he was told his services were no longer required at Brive.

The French club has revealed that they will not be extending the contracts of a number of foreign players next season. Davies, who was seeking a two-year extension but offered one, along with Fiji’s Norman Ligairi and Englishman Ben Johnston will not have their current deals extended.

Davies made 91 appearances for the Scarlets between 2003-2007, scoring 36 tries and four conversions, in a stint which saw him capped for Wales.

Romania’s Alex Manta and Sukanaivalu Hufanga of Tonga were also told that they have no future with a club which hopes to play in the European Cup next season.

Brive recently unveiled English centre Riki Flutey as a new signing for next season but have seen fellow England international Ben Cohen cross back over the English Channel to play for Sale Sharks.
