The special one-off event will be exclusive to all supporters attending the region’s next home game where the Scarlets take on Glasgow in the Magners League.

Supporters will have the golden chance to watch the Scarlets boys in full training session from the South stand at Parc y Scarlets as Nigel Davies oversees a crucial session before the Glasgow game. The coaching team will be miked-up to the stadium PA so fans will get a full commentary of events on the field.

The evening event on Thursday April 2nd will then be followed by a meet-the-players event as the whole squad mingle with supporters.

Scarlets head of regional operations, Jon Daniels, who is managing the event said: “This is a chance for the whole Scarlets community – fans, players, coaches and administrators, to get up close and personal. We are looking at a series of events to strengthen our links with our support base and wider community.

“We wanted to create an event which would give our match day supporters something extra for their money – and as a thank you for their ongoing support of our region.

“This will give a unique and exclusive behind the scenes insight into the Scarlets squad.

“I believe it is the first time any Welsh region has held an open training session for the public and will give our supporters insight into the world of top-flight professional sport and what goes into the training sessions. It will be a great evening out
for die-hard fans, families, our young supporters and rugby enthusiasts alike.”

The only requirement for supporters is that they have a season ticket or a match ticket for April 4th’s Glasgow game. Either will allow public entry free of charge to this special Scarlets event.

The open event (Thursday, April 2), will start at 5.30pm when the Castell Howell South Stand gates open and when the Parc y Scarlets shop launches a series of special one-off offers. On the pitch, matchday announcer Tommo will start proceedings at 6pm and MC the event.

The training session will begin at 6.15pm, with fans seated in the South Stand. They will watch the traditional “captain’s run” training hour as the 24 players chosen for the Glasgow game put the finishing touches to their big-game preparations.
Scarlets skipper Simon Easterby said: “The captain’s run brings together all the key elements the squad has worked on during the build-up to a game, specifically the main ways in which we plan to attack the opposition and negate their main threats.

“Nigel Davies will introduce the session then the players will be put through their paces. It’ll include lineout drills, backs moves and other important set-piece practice. It’ll be fascinating, something that’s never been witnessed by most people. I just hope there are no Glasgow spies in the camp!”

Training will end at 7.15pm and players will then start to meet fans on the South Stand’s first-floor fast food concourse. Food and drink will be available, along with the chance to chat to players, take photographs and hunt for autographs.

Easterby continued: “This whole event will be a big thing for the squad and, we hope, the supporters. It’s a brilliant idea and we can’t wait to see the fans’ reaction. They’ll have lots of questions after seeing the session – and we’ll all be delighted to answer them.
“The night will be a wonderful way of cementing some of the traditional bonds that unite Scarlets fans and players.”
