Former Wales wing Adrian Hadley believes a growing confidence and winning mentality will see Cardiff Blues reach the Heineken Cup Final on Saturday May 23.

The Blues face Leicester Tigers in the semi-final stages at the Millennium Stadium on May 3 after defeating French giants Toulouse at the same venue last weekend.

“The Blues will not have been worried about who they faced in the Heineken Cup semi-final, although Leicester will be a difficult nut to crack,” Hadley, who won 29 caps for Wales between 1983 and 1988, told BBC Sport Wales.

“My money’s on a Blues v Munster Heineken Cup final in Edinburgh in May.”

Before they can start thinking of Heineken Cup glory, the Blues have the small matter of an EDF Energy Cup Final against Gloucester at Twickenham to deal with this Saturday.

Victory against Dean Ryan’s men would see top-level silverware return to the Welsh capital for the first time since the region’s inception and Hadley believes the Blues’ have what it takes to make that happen.

“They will be overwhelming favourites for the EDF final against Gloucester – although that may not be a good thing,” added Hadley.

“The Blues have grown, they’ve become street-wise and hard, they want to fight for each other and for the shirt.

“Two years ago the Ospreys were like that and they battered the Blues. It’s gone full circle now, the Ospreys have lost that edge and the Blues are the real deal.”
