Lockyer first joined up with Ponty from his hometown club of Abercwmboi as a raw youngster, with the Academy in 2001 and then with the senior squad in 2003.
Initially playing on the wing, “The Ox” moved to the inside centre position, making a huge impact as a line breaking ball carrier. An integral part of Ponty’s successful Welsh Cup campaigns of 2005 and 2006, Lockyer earned a worthy reputation as one of the star players at semi-professional level.
A move to Neath followed in the summer of 2007, featuring in the club’s double championship winning team, albeit with Lockyer’s time in the all black shirt curtailed by injuries.
Now back to full fitness, Lockyer has committed himself to a return to Pontypridd at the commencement of the 2009 – 2010 season, signing up on a three year contract.
Commenting on his impending move, Lockyer said: “I’m delighted to be coming back to Pontypridd. Now that the deal is done, I just can’t wait to come back to Sardis and to play for the club again.
“There could be exciting times ahead at Premiership level with a new cross border competition being proposed, and I know that Ponty want to be competitive at that level. It will be good to pull on the shirt again and be part of that push for honours”.
