The match could have gone either way at halftime, with the scores locked at 3-3. Fly half Jason Rees knocked over a penalty for Aberystwyth which was cancelled out by Dean Thomas.
In the second spell the heavens opened as the ‘Waterwheelers’, who were runners-up in Division Three South West and boast Welsh internationals Lee Byrne and Gavin Thomas among their former players, had to play second fiddle to the Ceredigion outfit.
Full back Paul Stubbs raced over for a well worked try which Rees improved further with a conversion. Rees added two further penalties while Thomas responded with two for Tondu but it wasn’t enough as the Ceredigion outfit celebrated a well deserved victory and promotion.
