Crunch time for Wales

It’s make or break time for Wales Women Under 20s as they come face to face with arch rivals England in tonight’s last game of the round-robin series of the Nations Cup at Brunel University.

Wales lost their opening game against USA but fought back with a win against Canada to give themselves a chance of making the final. However to reach the final, Wales will be hoping Canada brush aside the challenge of USA while Elinor Snowsill’s side have to either beat or restrict England to a winning margin of 40 points.

Wales will take some inspiration from their last meeting with England when the two sides met in north Wales. Although England came away with the victory, Wales were still in the game at halftime, as skipper Snowsill confirmed.

“We were in that game but a couple of our mistakes led to tries for them so they were able to pull away. We were definitely still in the game at halftime and were down only a few points. There are a lot of positives we can take out of that game so we go into the game against England in a positive frame of mind.”

Wales have never beaten England at his level but Snowsill isn’t overawed by the challenge that faces her side.

“The girls are really determined to put in a good effort so we can reach the final. There are quite a few permutations with the early game but so long as Canada win and USA don’t get a bonus point, the rest is then down to us. Our destiny is then in our own hands.”
