Jones faces shoulder surgery

The Ospreys have been rocked with the news that Adam Jones faces surgery on the shoulder injury which forced him to return home early from the British & Irish Lions tour of South Africa.

The prop suffered a dislocation of the right shoulder early in the second half of the second test against the Springboks, and flew home to the UK on Wednesday before meeting up with the Ospreys medical team for them to fully assess his condition.

Outlining the findings of the consultation, Ospreys Physio Chris Towers said: “Adam had a scan at the Vale Clinic in Cardiff, which confirmed that he had torn ligaments in the shoulder in the process of the dislocation. In light of these findings he then saw a specialist who has recommended that the best management of the injury is to undergo surgery to repair the ligament damage.

“We would expect excellent results from the surgery, however, we are looking at a timescale of around six months before Adam would be able to play rugby again.”

It is anticipated that Adam will undergo surgery early next week.
