SWALEC PLATE Round Two (Ties to be played weekend of 12 December, 2009)
The former Nant Conwy outside half scored all his side’s points in the dramatic second round victory over Llandeilo that took the west Walians one step closer to their dream of playing at the Millennium Stadium on Swalec Cup Finals day.
The drama went on into extra time in round two before Ap Myrddyn settled the issue as he took his personal tally to 23 points to set-up a home clash with Division 3 West outfit, Llanybydder.
There were only 15 matches played in the opening round of the Swalec Plate, but there will be 64 teams involved in the second round as the teams who were given byes enter the competition. The biggest casualties in the opening round were Division 2 East’s Abercynon, who were beaten at home by 3 South East team Heol y Cyw. Even though the visitors were outscored 4-3 on tries, their 26-25 victory was enough to earn them a home tie in the second round against Llandaff North of the same division.
Tondu’s prize for taking the scalp of another Division 2 side, Pencoed, is a home derby clash with Nantyffyllon. The two teams will have an early ‘getting-to-know you’ meeting in Division 3 South West on 14 November when they clash at Nantyffyllon.
The draw has created three north Wales mouth watering derbies. Top of the list will be current Division 1 North league leaders Nant Conwy’s clash with second placed Mold, while Caernarfon will host Bro Ffestiniog and Ruthin will receive Pwllheli.
Abergavenny will be looking to take another major Gwent scalp when they host Division 2 East club Garndiffaith. Their 31-20 triumph over Pontypool United in the first round featured 16 points from the boot of outside half Danny Hayman.

Llanrumney’s reward for their 40-28 second round victory over Old Illtydians in the Swalec Bowl is a home clash in round three against Barry.
Barry are in Division 5 South East and struggled to a 23-18 home win over another Division 6 team, CRC Caerdydd, in the last round, so they will be wary of their short trip across Cardiff.
