Paul Turner thinks his resurgent Dragons can force themselves into a Play-Off position by tipping over Connacht tonight in their St Patrick’s Day party.

The Gwent region play their rearranged Magners League match against the table footing side knowing a victory will take closer to a play-off place in May.

And with the Scarlets and the Blues struggling for form, his side could avoid their now traditional play off for a Heineken Cup spot at the end of the season.

His side brushed aside Munster at Rodney Parade in their last league outing, and, with good away form in the competition this year, he hopes to maintain that winning momentum.

He explained: “It is now the league is taking shape and everyone is focusing on the play-offs. A win would also put some daylight between us and the Blues and the Scarlets.

Should the Dragons secure a bonus point win they would shoot up the table into third place with 34 point, level with leaders Leinster and second-placed Ospreys. That would put them 11 points in front of the Blues and 13 ahead of the Scarlets

But Turner is also wary of a slip up against Connacht. Last season the Irish side routed his team 39-17. “It is a place where we often go with huge ambition but come away with nothing,” he said.

“We have often been over there in control of games and then all of a sudden, 10 minutes later the match is over. That has to change sometime so let us hope that this is tonight.”
