The final was always going to be a close and physical affair with Waunarlwydd currently sitting top of Division 1 west and Seven Sisters in their first season of Premiership rugby after winning the same division last season.
The first half was very much a kicking contest with possession swinging back and forth. Waunarlwydd missed a penalty attempt but then broke from a lineout which saw No 8 Carole Ann Burt score in the corner.
Seven Sisters claimed possession from the restart and surged forward. Jamie Davies kicked through and the ball was grounded in the corner by centre, Jess Thomas. The well struck conversion by scrum half Layla Johns edged Seven Sisters 5-7 ahead – a lead which was kept until half time.
Seven Sisters then had to withstand a barrage from Waunarlwydd early in the second spell. An invigorated Waunarlwydd broke through for the try line but the ball was touched down by the defence.
Waunarlwydd continued their attack keeping ball in hand but were denied possession by a knock on. A flying arm gave Waunarlwydd the chance to take three points and the lead but the opportunity was missed. A further chance quickly presented itself and this Burt slotted it between the sticks putting Waunarlwydd ahead 8 – 7.
Seven sisters, not perturbed, defended well against a powerful Waunarlwydd attack, won the ball and made their own counterattack. However, another missed penalty saw the score remain 8 – 7.
Waunarlwydd continued to hammer away at the Seven Sisters line and only brace defence by midfielder Jamie Davies denied them from adding to their score.
