The All Whites had never gained a single point in the World Cup finals but a late late goal by defender Winston Reid earned them a shock share of the spoils against their more fancied rivals.
Jones, who was a goalkeeper for the Bristol City schoolboy side before switching to rugby, sent the All Whites a good luck message on behalf of the Wales team before the Kiwis kicked off their campaign.
“Wales and New Zealand have always had a special relationship because of our love for rugby and Wales didn’t make the World Cup so we have all been on the look-out for a team to get behind,” said Jones, in Wellington.
“Despite our national rivalry I’d personally like to see England do well and I think the likes of Italy, Argentina and Spain will be right there to the end.
“But I’ll certainly be keeping an eye out for the All Whites as well and would like to wish them the very best of luck against Slovakia.”
