Tries from flanker Hugo Ellis and full-back Gareth Bowen gave Newport the early advantage, but after that Ponty too control and scored three second-half tries from full-back Gareth Wyatt, No 8 Ed Siggery and outside-half Simon Humberstone. Humberstone also kicked two penalties and a conversion to seal the win for the visitors.
Llanelli overcame third-placed Aberavon at the Parc-y-Scarlets, triumphing 28-18. The West Walians scored three tries through lock Jonathan Gardner, centre Chris Keenan, and scrum-half Aled Davies. Fly-half Steven Shingler totaled 13 pointes for the home side, kicking three penalties and converting two of the tries. The Wizards failed to show their magic side, failing to touch down throughout the whole game, relying on a hat-trick of penalties from both fly-half Jamie Davies and his replacement Matthew Jarvis.
Swansea dominated their home fixture against Pontypool, cruising to a 41-14 victory. The All Whites touched down six times, wing James Dixon scoring twice. Centre Chris Shelmerdine, lock James Goode, fly-half Matthew Morgan and back-row Sam Lewis completed the scoring at St Helen’s, Morgan also hitting four conversions and a penalty. Hooker Craig Atwell and second-row Adam Jones threatened to hinder Swansea’s league position, but it wasn’t enough for Pooler to scrape a win against a strong Swansea team.
Lowly Camarthen Quins came back from behind to beat Bedwas 17-10. Wing Adam Greendale scored the away team’s only try, converted by Stuart Thomas. Outside-half Gareth Morgan kick a first-half penalty for the Quins, leaving the score 7-3 at the break. Lock Haydn Pugh then charged through for home side, followed over the line by Morgan, who then converted both tries to put the game out of Bedwas’ reach.
Cross Keys savaged stuttering Glamorgan Wanderers in a try-fest ending 59-20 in favour of the home side. The Keys managed to go over eight times, scorers including Ryan James, Phill Williams, Lloyd Burns, Richard Cornock, Ryan Lee, and Marcus Johnstone, while Jamie Davies grabbed a brace.
Elsewhere, Cardiff struggles continued as they shared the spoils with Tonmawr. Osprey’s wing Kristian Phillips, Warren Davies and Kiba Richards all got tries for the home side, but Gareth Davies put in an impressive kicking display, adding to two Cardiff tries, to snatch a draw.
Reigning champions Neath got their stuttering season back on track with a 34-21 victory over Llandovery, Arwell Thomas leading the way with 14 points.
