Women’s Regions announce Trials dates

Defending champions Scarlets, along with the Dragons, the Ospreys and the Blues, have revealed their trial dates for the keenly anticipated Women’s Regional Championship.

Just in its second year of existence, the inaugural championship last season went down to the wire with the Scarlets claiming the silverware in the final round of matches against the Dragons.

In doing so, they unearthed a real gem in flanker Sioned Harries who went on to play a starring role in the Welsh Women’s World Cup campaign in the summer. With one eye on next year’s Six Nations championship, the national team’s coaching set-up will be hoping some new talent is revealed once again.
The regional concept is a marked step up from club rugby and will also offer current internationals the opportunity to cement their spot in the selectors minds for the Six Nations campaign.

All intending players must complete the below attached form and send in advance to the relevant team manager if possible, if not applications will be accepted on the day. A player’s address is the basis on what region they will play for this season – (the only exceptions are at the WRU Performance Manager’s discretion and current internationals should now know their regions).
The Scarlets, coached by Wayne Williams and assisted by Chris Morgan, will hold Trials at Ammanford on Saturday 23 October, beginning at 10am. The Team Manager is Sara Davies sdavies@wru.co.uk

The Dragons, coached by Liza Burgess, will be staging their Trials this Saturday at Newbridge between 9am-10.30 FOR ALL NEW PLAYERS, followed by a training session between 11am-1pm to include all players from last season and internationals. The Team Manager is Claire Wilson claire.wilson1066@live.co.uk

The Blues will be spearheaded by Head Coach Adrian Evans who will have Nadine Griffiths and Steve Goddard assisting him The Team Manager is Leila Hughes HughesL18@cardiff.ac.uk

The Blues will have their Trials this Saturday at Cardiff High School Old Boys with any NEW players most welcome. The day begins at 9.30am for all new players with an 11am start for all players who were involved last season.

Dan Cottrell, Ceri Wyatt and Keith Hopkins will be coaching the Ospreys who hold their trials on Friday 22nd October at Waunarlwydd between 6pm and 8pm.

Application forms for the Ospreys should be sent to team manager Donna Crossman at: dlcrossman@hotmail.co.uk
