Wasps flanker Powell is a direct replacement in the back row for Lydiate – who is suffering from an ankle problem which has flared up – and makes his first international appearance since Wales’ dramatic last ditch Six Nations win over Scotland at the Millennium Stadium in February last season.
Ospreys prop James starts in the front row after Jenkins failed a late fitness test on a calf problem this morning.
Powell is replaced on the bench by Blues lock Deiniol Jones, meaning Ryan Jones is now the main back row cover and will therefore wear ‘19’ with his namesake now in possession of the number ‘18’ jersey.
Blues prop John Yapp also comes onto the replacements bench, in place of the promoted James.
