Rivals set to pay their respects

Wales and South Africa will be paying their respects to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice, prior to kick-off to Saturday’s Invesco Perpetual clash between Wales and South Africa at the Millennium Stadium.

Wales captain Matthew Rees and South Africa counterpart Victor Matfield will carry a wreath into the stadium. The last post will be played and there will be a minute’s silence.

Wales and world champions South Africa will also have a poppy embroidered into their playing jerseys as a tribute to those who have lost their lives in the two World Wars and other conflicts.

The largest bucket collection ever organised is taking place in and around the Millennium Stadium with 170 collectors including sailors from HMS Monmouth which is currently moored in Cardiff Bay.

The collection will take place before, during half time and after the game both inside and outside the stadium with the monies raised going to the three official service charities – the Army Benevolent Fund, the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity and the Royal Air Force Association.

The largest amount previously raised was £27, 000 for Help for Heroes – it is hoped fans will give generously to help beat that record.
