Wales Under 20’s head coach Darren Edwards has taken over temporary charge at Rodney Parade and he has guided his side to two victories in the LV=Cup as well as wins against Edinburgh and Aironi in the Magners League.

The Dragons came agonisingly close to a fifth straight win against Glasgow Warriors on Friday but were dined at the depth and had to settle for a draw at Firhill.

With their form on the up and an increased confidence in Newport, Charteris has hailed the new coaching set-up as ‘one of the best around’.

“From a player’s point of view, we’ve got one of the best coaches around,” said the Giant lock.

“But we’ve not only got a great coach, we’ve got the likes of Shaun Connor, Danny Wilson and Rob Appleyard, who has just joined us and is working with the boys on their defence.

“We feel we’ve got one of the best coaching set-ups and now we’re seeing the benefits of that on the field.”

The Dragons are up to seventh in the Magners League table but face a tricky tie away to current league leaders Munster in Cork on Saturday.
