Scarlets head coach Nigel Davies praised his side for turning a corner and learning how to close a game out as the region secured the final Heineken Cup spot for next season with a 37-29 victory against Glasgow.

The victory in Scotland ensured Davies’ side would finish above the Dragons in the race for the third European Cup qualification position and he was delighted to see his side take control of the tricky game.

“I was really pleased with that performance and after the first fifteen minutes where we were really loose we really took control of the game,” said Davies.

“We kept it simple and run good hard lines and ultimately we showed that we can close a game out.

“It’s a big performance for us.

“We have been loose in key moments but we were a lot better today and the boys showed that today.

While the Scarlets have missed out on an end of season play-off spot, Davies believes the campaign has been a positive one for his side and he is looking to end the season on a high when the Blues visit Parc y Scarlets.

“It’s been a positive but frustrating season for us,” he added.

“We have taken strides this year, there are a new crop of Scarlets who have come through for us this season and they are only going to get better and we have a lot to be excited about.

“I am really looking forward to the Blues match, facing our old friends the boys with everything to play for.”
