UWIC face Durham in the showpiece game for British Universities and appear at Twickenham in their fourth final in the last five years on Wednesday 27th April, looking for their first victory.

Currently lying in third in the SWALEC Leagues Division One West table, the UWIC men’s side will attempt to emulate the success of the women’s team who won the competition at Twickenham last season, for a record breaking fifth year in a row.

The Cardiff-based side, who play their home matches at the Cyncoed Campus and sport a maroon, amber and navy strip, earned their place in the final after beating Exeter University 31 – 18 on early in March – a score-line which is all the more impressive when you consider that Exeter were leading 18 – 6 at half-time.

Durham University beat the University of Bristol in the other semi-final to earn their place opposite UWIC and they bring with them an unbeaten record for the season as BUCS Premier North champions.

That match saw Durham go 20 points to 7 down in the early stages only to fight back to make it 20-20 with five minutes of normal time to play – before winning 30-20 after extra time.

The BUCS title was won last season by Loughborough’s men’s side, with the UWIC women’s side rewriting the history books in 2010 with a record breaking fifth consecutive victory.
