Details of the matches to be played in Cardiff will be confirmed in due course but Mr Jones is delighted the Millennium Stadium has been chosen as the only venue outside England to host games during the tournament.

He said: “I would like to offer my congratulations to the Welsh Rugby Union on the great news that some of the 2015 Rugby World Cup international fixtures will be played in Wales.

“It is fantastic that the Millennium Stadium has been chosen as the only venue outside of England to feature some of the matches, and the Welsh Government will continue to work with the WRU on this matter.

“It is thanks to the professionalism and endeavour of the WRU’s Chairman David Pickering, and Group Chief Executive Roger Lewis that these major events are on their way to Wales, and I look forward to the games continuing to show globally that Wales is a world leader in hosting huge sporting events of this kind.

“Events such as these will promote and develop the reputation of Wales on an international scale, and following the success of the Ryder Cup, Wales continues to go from strength to strength in this field.”
