Wales prop Gethin Jenkins has warned how Namibia are still determined to claim a big team scalp in the pool stages of the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.

He said that despite their heavy defeat at the hands of South Africa they will want to prove they are a better side when they face Wales in New Plymouth on Monday.

Jenkins said:”Namibia are going to want to knock one of the big boys over and we don’t want to be that team. When we play them we will want to do something special for the Welsh public.

“A lot is being talked about Ireland as a quarter final opponent but as a squad we are not thinking any further than Namibia right now. We just want to concentrate on the game we have coming up.”

He said that although South Africa beat Namibia comfortably the smaller African nation played good rugby in patches.
Jenkins added:”That game showed how good South Africa really are but Namibia did play in patches throughout the game.

“We have just got to worry about playing our own game when we play them.”

He revealed how his comeback game off the bench against Samoa was a tough return to Wales action.

“At half time we were shellshocked,” he said. “We knew how good they were going to be but we also knew we had to get a win on the board.

“We also had a good performance against South Africa so our task against Samoa was to prove how good we really are. Now we have to push on and on for two pool wins.”

Talking about his return from injury he revealed it had been a frustrating time on the sidelines with toe surgery followed by a calf injury.

He said:”It’s good to be back on the field. It’s been a long road to recovery and I was glad to get on in the end to be part of it. It’s certainly been frustrating over the past few games.

“To be part of this current squad environment is great but it’s not really the same until you get our on the field.”
