He said all the team will be looking for a victory against the Pacific islanders because Wales need to maintain their Rugby World Cup pool momentum.
But the Wales number three has warned his teammates they will have to be at their best when they take on Fiji at Hamilton.
Jones admitted Wales were hurt by being held to a draw by Fiji in their last encounter at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
He said: “We want to get out and put the record straight by banishing some ghosts. This is a test match and we can only go out there with the intention of winning it. If we are to get into the quarters we want to get there without another loss.”
He said part of his confidence is based on the skills on show within the current squad. ”It’s a young Wales squad and this is a really strong team which is very talented indeed.”
Jones insists that analysis of recent Fiji games has pinpointed the need to dominate them at scrum time.
“Samoa dominated the scrums against Fiji and we will be setting out to do exactly the same,” he said.
Jones packs down alongside his Ospreys teammate Huw Bennett with the Blues loosehead Gethin Jones completing a powerful front row.
The Wales bench has heavyweight front row options with Osprey Paul James joined by the Dragons hooker Lloyd Burns. Jones said set piece dominated must be balanced with a territorial gameplan which sees Wales playing rugby in the opposition half.
He said: “We have to be careful where and when we play our rugby because Fiji is a good attacking side and they have caused us problems in the last few games.”
