The veteran of 54 tests for Wales first played for his country back in 2004 and look set to feature in the 2007 World Cup before a shoulder injury ruled him out.

Jones has captained Wales and had domestic success with the Ospreys in recent years but always had one burning ambition and that was to play in the World’s biggest tournament.

“It’s been a very emotional week and day for me,” he said.

“It was only ten days ago that I was virtually going home and its been tough.

“But the medical staff have been fantastic and the coaching team have showed faith in me and hopefully I repaid that today.

“It was a massive relief for me personally and a relief that I lasted 80 minutes.

“It is something very special and its something I have always aspired to.

“It’s a really proud moment for me and all my family and friends back home.”

Jones was part of a Wales side that scored 12 tries in a comfortable victory over Namibia in New Plymouth and he believes the squad should be proud of their efforts.

“It’s a job well done,” he added.

“We knew coming into the game what we had to do and I’m really pleased with the performance the boys put it and the manner of the victory.

“Its never easy coming into the game as favourites but in the second-half we really showed how clinical we can be.”
