They watched WRU President Dennis Gethin award him the cap at a post match ceremony attended by the Wales squad and their opponents from Namibia.

His dad Delme, and mother Frankie attended the private function at the Wales team hotel in New Plymouth shortly after the final whistle in the Pool D encounter.

Delme Owens said: “I can’t put into words how proud we feel to see Ken get his cap awarded tonight. He certainly made a contribution to the game in the time he was on the field and we are delighted by the Wales victory.”

Ken Owens, said: “Playing for Wales is a massive honour and I enjoyed every minute of it. For me it represents the achievement of a lifelong ambition and years of very hard work.

“I was nervous when I first got onto the pitch but then I settled down and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. I got a few carries with the ball and I felt the scrum went well which I am happy with.”
