Priestland set for ‘biggest game’

Rhys Priestland faces what he calls the ‘biggest game of his career’ against Fiji on Sunday but is heading into the game full of confidence and believes Wales need to go out and enjoy the game at the Waikato Stadium.

The Scarlets playmaker only made his international debut back in last season’s Six Nations but has starred in the pivotal role for Wales during the World Cup in New Zealand.

And he believes Wales must play heads-up rugby against the pacific islanders this weekend and take confidence from an impressive first three games.

“We are quite happy with the way things are going in the squad,” he said.

“We are in confident mood following the summer and how we have played so far, so hopefully we can go out and play what is in front of us and put a good performance in.

“The further you go in the tournament the bigger the game, but as a squad it’s important we don’t go into our shells and put to much pressure on ourselves.

“We are all good rugby players and can all read what is in front of us, so we need to go out and play that sort of game and can’t go into our shells just because it’s a big game.

“We have worked hard all summer to be clinical so we need to take that and back our skills.

“Personally I would say it’s the biggest game I have played in.

“I have played in a lot of big games but this does top it.  But the reason I play rugby is because I enjoy it and that’s why I’m here.

“Every time I have gone out for Wales I have really enjoyed it, I’m not putting to much pressure on myself but hopefully I will put in a good performance, but the victory most important.

“We have to give Fiji the respect they deserve.  Four years ago they played an outstanding game against Wales and we know they have got players in the squad who you can hurt you.”
