The Dragons, led superbly by Wales back row Jamie Kift, secured a hard fought 20-17 win over the Blues at Caerphilly in the opening round and will be looking to build on that success at Maesteg when they take on the Ospreys.
There is also an U15s and U18s competition being staged before this game. Around 70 girls at U15s level and 50 girls at U18s level are expected to attend with Gilfach Goch, Neath Athletic, Garndiffaith, Pencoed, Haverdford West, Nantyfyllon, Carmarthen plus a couple of teams from North Wales attending.
The event will start at 11am with skills with WRU Development officers and Regional Women’s players. Following the skills sessions girls will break out into their team to play a round robin of games.
Following on from the round robin the girls will have hospitality to watch the Ospreys vs. Dragons game.
The aim of the event is to raise the profile of women’s and girl’s rugby in Wales. The girls will have a great chance to see the international players playing in the regional competition and also receive expert coaching on how they can get themselves get there.
