Rugby clubs across Wales are being urged to spread the word about a recruitment day in January to help encourage more people to take up or follow the sport.

The Welsh Rugby Union has prepared event packs which will help clubs publicise the initiative across their communities.

These packs include flyers, posters and a banner which will urge people to make their way to clubs where the doors will be open to non members.

Club members will also be on hand to deliver advice and answer questions about how to become an active participant in the game.

The WRU is urging clubs to distribute the material to schools, shops, community centres, doctor’s surgeries and any other venues where they will attract attention.

They are also being advised to publicise the events through local newspapers and radio stations to attract as many people as possible.

The recruitment day is part of a number of legacy projects being organised to embrace the massive interest in the game generated by the Wales performances at the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.

As part of the initiative the weekend of January 28 and 29 will be utilised to get as many people as possible to find our more about the sport.

WRU clubs are being told to register their interest at www.wru.co.uk/jointhebeat to apply to be part of the January event.

A list will then be compiled and publicised of each club taking part in the recruitment day across Wales.

Anyone currently not involved in Welsh rugby will be able to head for the club of their choice to find out in what capacity they may be able to play an active role.

Club officials will explain to callers how to become players, volunteers, coaches, match officials, first aiders or administrators.

The campaign launched in November has been called Heart of the Nation – Join The Beat designed to boost participatiton at all levels of community rugby on and off the field.

Closer to January 28 all participating clubs will also be sent a selection of giveaways and recruitment cards for volunteers.

The closing date for applications for clubs to register to take part is January 20 2012.
