Scarlets hooker Ken makes his first start for Wales in Warren Gatland’s side while little sister Vicky will earn her sixth cap in the second row when Wales Women take on England Women at the completion of the men’s game.
In the last round of RBS 6 Nations games, Wales Women played their home game at Cross Keys. After seeing Vicky figure prominently in Wales’ comfortable 20-0 victory, father Delme stepped on the gas to Cardiff 30 minutes away to watch the men’s match at the Millennium Stadium. However he arrived too late, to see his son come on and earn his second cap.
“We’ve always had great support from our parents – they’ve been so supportive and never chosen between Vic or myself,” said Ken. “My father last week went and watched Vic first and actually missed me coming on against Scotland because he was rushing over from Cross Keys. So this week we’re saving them a bit of mileage.”
When asked what it is like following in Ken’s footsteps, Vicky replied: “Actually when it comes to playing at Twickenham he is following in mine! I’ve played there twice and won on both occasions!”
She was referring to the BUCS finals she appeared in 2008/09 and 2009/10 when UWIC defeated Leeds Met at the home of rugby. Ken on the other hand has appeared once at Twickenham and lost when England beat the Barbarians in 2010.
