Davies quit the west Wales outfit to join the Cherry & Whites on a three-year deal. Simon Easterby has taken up the reins at Parc y Scarlets, with Mark Jones and Danny Wilson his assistants.
And Davies is confident the young coaching team have the experience and expertise to continue the rejuvenation of the Scarlets.
“Simon is a dedicated coach and very thorough,” Davies said. “He has huge respect from the players that are there and his coaching has developed extremely well over the last couple of years.
“His understanding of the game has improved and he has got a great work ethic. He knows what it takes for a side to be successful and will create a culture and environment that will allow people to do that.
“They are a young coaching team but in terms of their technical knowledge and expertise there are no issues.”
Gareth Jenkins, who led Wales to the 2007 World Cup in France, remains as the region’s head of development and recruitment and Davies reckons he will remain a major influence.
“When you talk about the coaching group, Gareth is fundamental to how the Scarlets move forward,” added Davies.
“He embodies all the values of the Scarlets and when people talk about Llanelli legends of the game, Gareth is one of the greatest people to come through the system.
“In terms of what he did as a player and what he has done as a coach, people need to reflect on that and the coaches he has brought through.
“Myself, Phil Davies and Simon have been a part of that. Don’t underestimate the influence Gareth has had on those people. If you look at the region now he is a key figure for the Scarlets.”
On a personal level Davies is looking forward to develop his career in the Aviva Premiership. The former centre has been attributed with developing many of the Grand Slam stars, who have graduated from the Scarlets. Gloucester now hope he will have a similar effect at Kingsholm
“This is an exciting new opportunity for me,” he added. “I wanted to challenge myself differently as this stage in my career and after 28 years in Wales as a player and a coach it was important to build on my experiences.”
“I am not going to put any limits on my team or myself. I have to come away and be successful in a place like this. What comes after that I am not sure but I have a big job to do here.”
