Wales stars Martyn Williams and Ryan Bevington joined the local community to support Crymych’s NatWest RugbyForce Weekend on Sunday.

They joined nearly 100 volunteers to help the club renovate its facilities as part of the nationwide community volunteer programme.

NatWest RugbyForce encourages communities to give something back to their local rugby clubs. Martyn and Ryan rolled up their sleeves, grabbed a paint brush and got stuck in to some key renovation work.

Work conducted on the day included extending the pitches in order to increase training opportunities for the club’s Youth section. The bar, which is used by club members and several local volunteer groups, was redecorated.

Crymych sits at the heart of the local community; it actively promotes the game in all the local primary schools and holds festival rugby days which all children are eligible to take part in. The lounge and sponsors’ bar is actively used by a host of different local organisations.

Martyn Williams said: “I am delighted to have been able to play my part in the NatWest RugbyForce Weekend at Crymych and help out with the renovations. I’m so pleased that so many members of the local community came down to get involved. I hope that NatWest RugbyForce and the great work that everybody achived today will help to ensure the club can continue to grow and provide a lasting legacy to the community for years to come.”

Crymych Treasurer, Wyn Jones said: “We’ve had a fantastic weekend celebrating NatWest RugbyForce at our club. Welcoming Martyn Williams and Ryan Bevington at our club was a pleasure, they really got stuck in and helped out. The NatWest RugbyForce programme will prove invaluable for the future of our club and help the club remain an integral part of the community for years to come.”

Crymych was one of 90 rugby clubs across Wales who registered for NatWest RugbyForce 2012, each of whom submitted a proposal for project work planned for the official NatWest RugbyForce Weekend. NatWest RugbyForce awarded Crymych a support package worth £5,000 to help change the face of their rugby club.
