The 6.30pm games saw the top group go up against each other. The much anticipated game of Thunderstruckers versus Pimp My Side began the early games. The Thunderstruckers Pat McGloin along with Patricia Healy took the challenge from Pimp My sides Tadhg Power and Chris Nairn. This was a very fast paced game and one to watch, at the full time whistle the score was Pimp My Side 13 to Thunderstruckers 2. Another game taking place at 6.30pm was Strandvestites versus Good4U. With Good4U’s Gary Devins and Brian Reilly working as a team they had a good first half against the Strandvestites captained by Roger Borrows. However when the full time whistle blew it was the Strandvestites who were victorious in the end. An all in all good round of early games.

The 7.15pm games had the sun continue to shine which was unusual given the unlucky weather we’ve been dealt for most of the tag season this summer at Hamilton Park. Team Toffs Ocean FM Tag Team took on Fairly Lively. Team Toffs Ocean FM certainly presented themselves well as they always do head-to-toe in their eye catching fluorescent orange kit from Jako. The Fairly Lively team captained by Gary Smith put up a strong game against the Toffs Ocean FM team with it neck and neck at half time. But Team Toffs Ocean Fm team took the win 20 points to 16 on the final whistle. The BOTT tag team with Leigh Fenton played the Supermodels on pitch 5. There was great side line banter amongst both teams with everyone having plenty of fun which is the aim of Tag Rugby. The Supermodels who looked great in their new jerseys this year had a narrow defeat to the BOTT tag team who took the win by just 1 point. The final score was Supermodels 17 – BOTT 18.

The 8pm games had 5 pitches on the go as per usual. The Who Ya Playing team took on the LA Hornets tag team. The game was a highly skilled one with Sinead McLoughlin playing for the Who Ya Playing tag team, up against Orlaith Furey who features for the LA Hornets. This game was a tough one for both teams, as they were both very close to scoring many times however they just couldn’t get the ball over the line before all 6 tags were counted. The final result was an even 8 all, with both teams taking a draw out of it.

The 8.45pm games were the final set of games on the night. The Radisson Blu’z tag team who are new to the tournament were up against the Scrumbags who have some new names to their panel also. The Radisson Blu’z team have Fergus O’Donovan as their Captian along with Celine Kilgannon as vice captain, they have done well as a new team in the tournament. It was a competitive game in the end with The Scrumbags gettting a win two weeks in a row. The final score in this game was The Radisson Blu’z 9 to Srumbags 13. Another 8.45pm game saw Swagger Jagger versus A Bit of Blue. These teams had met previously in the tournament, on this occasion A Bit of Blue tag team were missing some key players for week 9 but Lynda McLoughlin who captained the side put a good team together for the game and they held strong for the 40 minute game. Despite the game being even at half time, in the second half Swaggerz Jaggerz, who have Dane Torsney on their panel, managed to set the ball down over the try line a few more times resulting in a win by 4 points. The final score was Swaggerz Jaggerz 15 vs A Bit of Blue 11.

The final two nights of the season take place on Thursday July 12th and Friday July 20th. The final games are fancy dress, all teams are asked to come up with a good fancy dress idea and have a bit of fun on the final night. The previous fancy dress events will take some beating!

The Sligo Tag Commitee would like to thank all those who have sponsored any of our events during the tournament so far, those being The Radisson Blu’z who sponsored the Table Quiz night giving a dinner for 4 people as first prize. We also had a Charity Vegas night in aid of Aware, the prizes for this was sponsored by Voya Seaweed bath, Shells Cafe and The Strand Bar, all local businesses based in Strandhill, Sligo.

The final night along with trophys for the winning teams, will see the crowning of our Mr & Miss Tag 2012, along with the Spirit of Tag team, and of course a prize for the best Fancy Dress Tag Team.

The Sligo Weekender has also been a great support of Sligo Tag and the Sligo RFC tag committee would like to acknowledge the support they have given throughtout the 11 week tournament.

Last but most certainly, not least, the referees are most appreciated for volunteering their time throughout the summer. Without them, games are just not possible. It is they who provide a vital ingredient in maintaining the high standard of a tag venue for each and every person who visits it.
