The Blues ran in five tries in a comprehensive win with winger Kent Birch scoring twice. Centre Garin Smith, fullback Olly Smyth and Ellis Wyn Benham also found themselves on the score sheet.
Wednesday night’s victory over the Cherry and Whites followed a 15-8 triumph over Northampton Saints last week.
Two Sam Withers’ conversions and a penalty from Tom McAloon added gloss to the score line with Blues Performance Manager Richard Hodges happy with how his squad are performing.
“All five tries from the backs shows we are playing a decent style, something all the regions are trying to buy into this year,” he said. “It’s gone well and we’ve got 40 boys who will play through pre-season and so far everybody has put their hand up.”
The clash with Gloucester was the start of three games in seven days for the Blues with two tough fixtures against Munster and Leicester to come.
The Blues take on Munster U18 on Saturday at Glamorgan Wanderers (KO 11aM) before they welcome Leicester to Abercwmboi on Wednesday August 22 (KO 2.30pm).
With a tough run of fixtures ahead, Hodges is looking forward to seeing how his squad will fare. “Munster are going to be a very strong challenge,” he said. “It’s a huge week for us and to have three games in a week is a hard task for anyone.
“It’s going to be very difficult to cut down the squad to 32 for the start of the season.”
