The WRU’s Join the Beat campaign will see a world record attempt take place as youngsters at Crynant take part in a Big Catch event on Saturday, August 25.

The club is calling on as many members of the local community as possible to get involved in beating the current record of 279 consecutive passes. To set a new record, the ball must be passed along a line with each person at least five metres away from the other.

Taking place at Woodland Parks playing fields, the world record attempt will be followed by a family fun day.

As part of the Join the Beat campaign, the event is being held with the aim of engaging members of the local community in their local rugby club.

Crynant are asking players from local teams Seven Sisters and Banwen to get involved and the club is confident of breaking what is a difficult record.

“It is quite a challenge as we must not drop the ball,” said organiser Nicola Roderick. “We are going to give it a good go, although it may take us a few attempts to beat it.

“But anyone can come along and join in as long as they are over 11. We are trying to get as many people involved as we can.”

The Big Catch will be followed by other entertainment including refreshment stalls, craft stalls from all over Wales, and a bouncy castle for children.

“We are also hoping to get a male voice choir and another vocal talent to sing for us on the day,” added Mrs Roderick. “It is going to be a family fun day as there will be lots going on. We are hoping an Osprey or two may come along.”
