Last weekend the Wizards defeated Tondu 52-19 at home and Baglan 28-0 away and used 42 players in the four outings, with several trialists included. Unfortunately, they lost scrum half Dan Davies with a broken ankle at Moseley.
Liam Gadd suffered a cut over the eye and other injured players include centre Ben John and No 8 Nathan Strong, while flanker Nathan Brown and flanker Darryl Thomas have had eye and knee operations respectively with centre Will Price recovering from a knee reconstruction.
However, there is great competition for places with veteran Richard Morris now having played 511 times for the club and among those pushing for a league debut are hooker Ieuan Davies, lock Hywel Davies and flanker Joe Tomalin-Reeves, the latter having returned from the Wales Under 18s Development trip to South Africa.
Over the summer Aberavon have had a massive recruitment drive with flyers going out to 20,000 homes in the Port Talbot and surrounding areas. This has had a fantastic up take with new members.
The Wizards have also made rugby more accessible to U16s with FREE entry at home games and they are working with local junior clubs with invites to games and much more. If a junior club would like to attend an Aberavon fixture then contact Gareth Howells on gareth.howells@aberavonwizards.co.uk
The club is really excited with the kick off of the new Principality Premiership season and can’t wait for Saturday’s fixture, so hopefully, families and friends will come and support the Wizards
