Ex-regional lock Bryn Griffiths has returned to Wales after a season with French club L’Orleans to strengthen the Drovers squad for the forthcoming season.

Griffiths made 30 appearances at national age grade level, and followed this with 35 appearances for the Scarlets, 15 for the Dragons and seven for Cardiff Blues. He also played over 100 games for Doncaster in the competitive English Championship.

“Bryn is a quality and experienced player that will add to the Drovers forward play this year,” said Llandovery forwards coach Euros Evans.

“Youngsters need good role models to look up to and learn from. Bryn is totally professional in his approach and he is fitting in really well to our environment.”

Griffiths though is aware of the challenge in front of him.

“I am very grateful to Llandovery RFC for giving me the opportunity to come back to Wales to play rugby again in the Welsh Premiership,” he said.

“The players and coaches have been great during pre-season and I’m looking forward to getting involved and helping Llandovery push on again this year.

“There’s a lot of talent in the squad and competition for places is going to be tough. There’s some very exciting fixtures coming up in the Welsh Premiership and the British and Irish Cup and hopefully if selected I want to play well and be involved in these competitions come the end of the season.”

Head Coach Lyndon Lewis believes Griffiths can still regain a regional contract.

“Bryn still has ambition and this is extremely important to our coaching staff,” he said. “We will do everything possible to support Bryn to play to his potential and regain his status as a regional player.”

As far as his future is concerned, Griffiths added: “As far as regional rugby is concerned, like every player I want to play at the highest level, and if given the opportunity then I would look to make a positive impact.

“However there’s a lot of hard work ahead with the start of the season fast approaching and I’m fully focused on fighting to make the starting team for the first league game at Cardiff.”
