With just one match of their tour in South Africa remaining, Wales U18 are hoping to return home on the back of a win against France.

Wales have played some free-flowing, attractive rugby so far and despite not having recorded a win, head coach Allan Lewis has refused to compromise the team’s style of play in search of their first victory.

“The policy has been to play attractive rugby and obviously we want to win games but it’s mainly about the development of the players,” he said.

“We are trying to get players who will play with ball in hand and can make the step up to the regional game. Even the most attractive rugby must be efficient but I am not going to compromise our style of play to win games. We are not a million miles away.”

Wales’s style of play has seen the likes of winger Dafydd Howells and centre Ben Roberts impress and they will again be given an opportunity against France.

“We decided that some boys would play all three games and that we would rotate others,” added Lewis who is expecting a tough final game.

“France have a good back row and strong forwards and being French they will play some good football,” he said. “It’s going to be a difficult game but the experience of being out here has been immeasurable. Playing international rugby and experiencing the culture has benefitted many of the boys.”
