The Scarlets have added a personal touch to their Parc y Scarlets home in a bid to reinforce their identity.

Captain Rob McCusker and co have put up pictures of past glories and former heroes as they look to secure some silverware this season.

The Scarlets have enjoyed some huge wins in the nine years since regional rugby came into place and McCusker hopes reflecting on those will have a positive impact going forward.

“We’ve tried to revamp the club and get some more images up and make it more personal to us,” said McCusker, ahead of Saturday’s PRO12 opener with Leinster.

“The general consensus was that it was just a bit generic – you’d turn up and see breeze block walls and you could be anywhere.

“We’ve just gone back over the years since the inception of the region in 2003, looked at all the memorable victories the Scarlets have had in Europe and domestically and the past players who have got us to where we are.

“We wanted teams to know that they were coming to our patch. We wanted to make it a little more intimidating, and it also helps us – you don’t want to just be looking at the same four walls so a bit of colour livens the place up a bit.

“There’s some of the youngsters coming through who’ve had some good wins over the last couple of years, and we’ve also left space for us to grow into as a team.

“It’s important for us to get some silverware so we’ve got something new to put up on the wall (next year).”

The Scarlets have shown plenty of promise in recent times, reaching the quarter-finals of the Amlin Challenge Cup and the semi-finals of the LV= Cup last term, but revamping their new home hasn’t just focussed on success.

The region haven’t won a knockout game for four years and McCusker insists reminding themselves of such painful experiences is equally important when it comes to building for the future.

“I was quite keen to get some photos up of times we’ve lost, just so we see it and think ‘I don’t want to feel like that again’,” added McCusker.

“Defeats like the ones at Brive and Northampton last season were pretty difficult to take. You work hard to get to a certain position and then stumble at the final hurdle and that’s not the easiest situation to deal with.

“But if we can learn from those experiences and tweak a few things I think we’ll be on the right track this year.”
