Ospreys offer Morgan hope

Ospreys starlet Matthew Morgan has been assured that he will play a major role in the region’s RaboDirect PRO12 defence.

The 20-year-old played a bit-part role in the Ospreys’ triumphant campaign and played just 21-minutes during the region’s seven-game winning run to the title.

But after impressing during Wales Under-20s Junior World Championship, Morgan has been promised sufficient opportunities to demonstrate he is ready for senior rugby.

“We will reward consistency of form,” Ospreys backs coach Gruff Rees told the South Wales Evening Post.

“But it’s important for Matthew that he plays and he will get game-time. I’d agree he didn’t get enough rugby in the run-in, but he has to step back from that disappointment and build on his displays at the under-20s World Cup and take them into the pro game.”

The Ospreys instead placed their faith in Dan Biggar to steer them forward and he played in every game since the 26-20 loss to Glasgow in March.

“It wasn’t a reflection on Matthew,” added Rees.
