After four games the Wizards are yet to record a victory in this season’s campaign and in truth they were second best throughout in this contest.

Llanelli brought in Stuart Leach for his Principality Premiership debut in the back row who put in a good solid all round performance along with Duane Eager and Lewis Rawlins.

Outside half Owen Williams opened the scoring with two fine penalties within 15 minutes. Llanelli were being allowed to play  tempo rugby thanks to the no-nonsense approach of referee Sean Brickell to the delight of all spectators.

Then, when Aberavon’s prop Rowan Jenkins was yellow carded for killing the ball it was anticipated that Llanelli would get their first try however a yellow for Llanelli prop Rhys Thomas evened matters again.

Another yellow for the Wizards’ Gavin Ronan five minutes before half time opened the door once again and centre Nic Reynolds took advantage with a good try on half time.

Following the injury to Aled Hopkins just before halftime, Jamie Kaijaks replaced him at the start of the second and within five minutes was stretchered off, resulting in a long delay in play while the medics tended to him.

The disruption was visible with a poor first 15 minutes  performance which saw the homesters capitalise with two Craig Evans  penalties.

Owen Williams then steadied the ship with a penalty on 54 minutes and impressive 18-year-old, former Ysgol Y Strade pupil Steffan Hughes touched down, following another attack.

Fellow centre Nic Reynolds then added Llanelli’s third try of the match which Williams converted. Leading 26-6 after 63 minutes it was going to take a big effort from the home team to prevent the ‘Turks” getting their try bonus point but to their credit and Llanelli’s misfortune, that’s what they achieved with their never say die attitude.

Aberevon’s difficult start to the season continued with their fourth defeat from four starts against Llanelli who have now won three of their four matches.
