The development region has gained the agreement of the WRU Board to compete in the Cup, rather than the Plate competition in line with the other Division One clubs this year due to the fact that RGC 1404 draw their players from the divisional clubs in north Wales and by playing in the Plate they would be competing against those same clubs that provide players to the Regional side.
Jenkins said, “I fully support the inclusion of RGC 1404 in the main Cup draw, and campaigned for this result, not only because playing in the Plate would undermine the agreement we have with the north Wales clubs to develop their players, but because playing in the Cup will enhance the development of RGC 1404 as a Development Region, providing the team with an opportunity to pit themselves against tough opposition in a competitive environment.”
RGC 1404 have been drawn to play Swansea in Round One of the SWALEC Cup on the weekend of January 26 2013.
“The first round draw, with RGC travelling to St Helens to play Swansea is a difficult one, but one which the players and coaches will relish I’m sure, and will give the side a taste of what they are aiming for.”
