Seven Sisters defeated Caernarfon fairly convincingly in the Cup competition 18 months ago so would have expected to win but they were pushed all the way by an improved home side.
From the kick-off it became apparent that this was going to be a far less one sided affair with each and every attacking threat being thwarted at base by both teams.
By spreading the ball wide at each and every opportunity everyone was kept alert and involved despite the awful weather.
After some 20 minutes outside half Sera Bailey made a fine break from the halfway line, found herself in space and backed her pace to outmanoeuvre the opposition to score an excellent opportunist try that she also converted.
It soon became apparent that if possession could be recycled for a number of phases that gaps would appear and this tactic led to Jamie Davies eventually grounding beneath the crossbar to grant Jessica Richards an easy conversion to level the scores.
Good tackling by Emma Edwards and Rhian Gwawr in particular kept the Seven Sisters forwards at bay whilst the backs got little change from the tenacity of Sera Bailey and wing Alaw Davies.
The Cofis soon regained the lead when one concerted team effort crept ever closer to the try line, finally allowing Dyddgu Hywel to power over from close range. Bailey again converting.
Not to be outdone Seven Sisters scored a carbon copy type try with centre Rachel Rees finding a gap to score and convert bringing the half to a close on 14-14 each.
The Cofis faced the elements in the second half and conceded early when after three phases of play from a lineout, Jamie Davies was able to force her way over the line for her second try again converted by Rees. Numerous injuries disrupted momentum and the Cofis found it ever difficult to clear their lines effectively. Erin Eifion continuing not realising that she would need surgery on a hand injury later.
Towards the end, an ever-game Cofi side prevented two certain tries by holding up the opposition beyond the try line, with Mary Atkinson terrier like in her challenges. However Seven Sisters were to have the final word when they worked centre Rachel Rees into a gap that saw her outpace the defence to score her second.
Next Sunday it’s another home tie for Caernarfon, although at Llangefni, against Pencoed at 2.30pm.
