The Gwent side are currently unbeaten in the league having previously overpowered Welshpool and Barry. Maesteg Celtic were the latest to try and cut the ‘Miner Birds’ down to size, but Penallta came away with a convincing 27-5 victory.
With the wind and rain pouring on the girls backs, the game was never going to be a flowing or expansive match and was quite evenly contested. Maesteg Celtic’s attitude and passion didn’t make life easy for the Penallta ‘Miner Birds’ and this was by far the strongest contest yet this season for the Gwent side.
Abbie Taylor (2), Gemma Williams (2) and Louise Shanahan scored tries for the victors with Lauren Thomas adding a conversion. In reply Masteg Celtic were awarded a penalty try through Penallta hands in the ruck.
This Sunday will see a top of the table clash as Penallta Miner Birds entertain Tylorstown in what promises to be a mouth-watering prospect. Both sides will be eager to win to keep up their unbeaten record.
Penallta Miner Birds are always on the lookout for new and experienced players to join the newly formed side. Any girls interested, contact Team Manager Anne Williams on 07875 103996.
